The 'His Shoes' Story
Dear Friend,
I am Lee Eddins and I have a confession to make. I have been guilty of looking the other way when I see people who are different than I am or that I think have abilities that should put them at a different level of being. I'd like to tell you about a new organization here in Austin called His Shoes. I started His Shoes after going to lunch with a friend of mine. He told me about Church Under the Bridge and Mission Possible. He told me how he had been at the store the day before he attended the service and tried to think of something he could bring there on Sunday to give to the homeless. He was buying socks so he decided to buy a couple of extra bags of socks to give away. He proceeded to tell me how grown adults would drop to the ground right there where they were standing and take their shoes off and put on these socks that he had just given them. I was so moved by his story. I remember thinking, how can anyone be so happy about socks?
Seventh Day Slumber- Their song Matthew 25 says this: I watched a mother who had her children/ They were all three crying out for help/ But no one heard them/ And I just passed them and I screamed "Lady get a job!"/ She took her own life, Under the bridge that day/ While her children sat and cried/ I could have told her about my loving father/ Instead I spit in Jesus face, when I heard her voice/ What you do unto the least of them You do unto me/ And when you see one of my hurting children I want you to see me.
A good friend of mine told me once that when we see someone who is different than we are that either we pass judgment or make adjustment. As I drove to the post office the next day I was listening to that song and realized that I had to make adjustment. You see, I have never, even at my lowest point or most difficult financial situation been excitedthat's not the right word, THANKFUL for a pair of socks. It never crossed my mind that someone could be thankful for a pair of socks. His Shoes is a ministry that seeks to provide shoes and socks to the helpless, homeless and fatherless. We collect shoes at various collection points and then catalogue and distribute them to those who need them.
Please, next time you are in the store, go buy a bag of socks and donate them to His Shoes. Go through your closet and give those tennis shoes or boots you don't wear anymore to His Shoesyou may not need them, but we know a lot of men, women and children who do, and we'll make sure that your shoes get to them.
Sincerely,
Lee Eddins
